Beginning next month, San Diego County must increase its payments to foster parents.
A federal judge has ruled California must boost its payments, saying the state it not complying with federal law.
State reimbursement levels failed to cover the costs of raising a child the judge ruled and he ordered the state Department of Social Services to raise its rates to levels specified in a University of California, Davis, study on the needs of foster children.
The San Francisco Chronicle says reimbursement for foster parents with a child up to 4 years old will increase from $446 a month to $609. Rates for older children would climb from $627 a month to $761.
