Bobblehead Battle: Whitman vs. Brown

Looking for the perfect gift for a California political junkie?

The perfect gift, of course, would be "find them a more interesting hobby."

But if that doesn't work, consider a Meg Whitman or Jerry Brown bobblehead being given away Friday night at the Oakland Athletics' AAA affiliate Sacramento River Cats game.

In a contest they're billing as the Bobblehead Election Giveaway, the River Cats are offering bobbleheads of the Democratic and Republican 2010 Governor's race nominees to the first 2,500 fans arriving at Friday night's game. Whichever candidate's bobbleheads get snatched up first will be declared the winner.

Republican and Democratic minor league baseball fans are even being offered separate promotional codes for discount advance ticket sales. Right-wing fans can get discounted tickets at rivercats.com/republican, lefties can get theirs at rivercats.com/democrat.

No word yet on whether the California Peace & Freedom Party will be demanding their own bobblehead in an equal representation lawsuit.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who predicts that most of those Meg Whitman bobbleheads will, ironically, end up on eBay.
