Democrats are holding the lead in one of two key for Assembly seats controlled by the GOP.
Democrat Marty Block, the president of the San Diego Community College board, led his Republican opponent, Chula Vista City Councilman John McCann, for the Assembly seat being given up by Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, R-San Diego, who is also termed out this year.
With 73% of precincts counted, Block is getting 55% of the vote.
