Gunman Ambushes Mother, Daughter at Queens Hotel, Shoots Mom: Sources

A gunman ambushed a mother and daughter pulling up to a hotel near John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens Thursday night, jumping into their car and pistol-whipping the daughter before shooting the mother, police said.

The 53-year-old mother and her 20-year-old daughter had driven up to Hampton Inn Hotel on 135th Avenue in South Ozone Park at about 8:30 p.m., and the mother walked out of the car and into the hotel, police said.

As the daughter waited in the car, the gunman jumped into the driver's seat and demanded money, police said. The daughter said she had no cash, and that's when the gunman pistol-whipped her in the head, cutting her, police said.

He  took four rings from the daughter, including a silver elephant-shaped one, according to police.

As the mother walked back out of the hotel and to the car, police said the suspect confronted her and demanded cash. She tussled with him, and the gunman shot him her in the stomach.

The suspect ran away with the mother's handbag and into a white Volkswagen Jetta, appearing to be from 2005 to 2010, and the two took off.

EMS responded and took both women to Jamaica Hospital. The daughter was in stable condition and the mother was listed in critical condition, police said.

No arrest has been made and police are continuing to investigate.

The gunman was described as a man in his 30s, about 5 feet 11 inches, wearing a black ski mask and a black Columbia jacket, with black pants and black sneakers.

The driver had braided hair.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
