U.S. May Send More Military Advisers to Iraq: Official

The Obama administration is considering whether to send hundreds more U.S. military personnel to train Iraqi soldiers attempting to retake the embattled city of Ramadi from ISIS control, a senior administration official confirmed to NBC News. A final decision has not yet been announced. The proposed surge, which a U.S. official told NBC News involves sending "fewer than 500 advisers," was first reported by the New York Times and The Washington Post Tuesday. The new strategy comes in the wake of the Iraqi army's stunning defeats at the hands of ISIS militants, particularly at the provincial capital of Ramadi on May 17.
