U.S. Hits Russia With Tough New Sanctions, Backing EU

Washington is tightening the screws on Moscow, signing onto a new batch of economic sanctions by Europe that are already the toughest since the Cold War. President Barack Obama announced the new measures against key sectors of the Russian economy Tuesday, in the latest effort to sever the Kremlin's support for Ukrainian rebels. Obama said the sanctions target Russia's energy, weapons and finance industries, and analysts have said they could inflict serious damage on the already suffering Russian economy.
