Deborah Cohan, UCSF Doctor, Shakes Booty on YouTube Before Mastectomy

A YouTube video of a Bay Area doctor dancing with the surgery in an operating room has officially gone viral.

That's because this doctor is also a patient.

And it's moments before she is about to go into surger for a bilateral mastectomy.

It's literally uplifting, the kind of video to bring a smile to your lips and tears to your eyes, all at the same time.

Clad in a baggy blue gown and colorful cap, Dr. Deborah Cohan, an OB/GYN at the University of California at San Francisco, dances with her pals in scrubs to Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied."

For 6 minutes and 14 seconds, the Harvard-educated doctor who runs the perinatal HIV clinic, grooves, laughs and shakes her booty.

It's quite a sight, especially for a breast cancer patient about to be put under before a  mastectomy.

As of noon on Thursday, the video had nearly 700,000 clicks. It was posted on Nov. 5, the day she had her operation at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion in San Francisco. On Friday at noon, the clicks had soared to 4.1 million.

The point of the video? To inspire others to dance and create a healing video montage.

Cohan explained it herself on her CaringBridge.org website, where she has photos of herself with her kids, Dahlia and Ben, and hugging a huge redwood tree in her bra and panties - all with a huge smile on her face. It was her children, she wrote, who inspired her to dance.

"My fantasy is for you to play the song  and dance wherever you happen to be (in the kitchen, the carwash, subway platform [Dan!], classroom, Labor and Delivery unit, wherever!) -- ideally at 7:30am but really anytime Tuesday. It would be extra remarkable if you could send me a photo (or, better yet, a short video segment) of you dancing (via caringbridge.org or deborahcohan1@gmail.com). I have visions of a healing video montage. Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people?
