Suspect in 2015 Downey Killing Extradited From Mexico

A tip received in July led investigators to Ruvalcaba's location and his life on the run ended on Aug. 16.

A man who allegedly shot and killed an acquaintance during an argument in Downey in 2015 has been arrested in Mexico and extradited to the United States to face murder charges, police said Tuesday.

Jehosua Ruvalcaba, now 30, of Downey allegedly gunned down Andrew Rosales about 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2015 near Paramount Boulevard and Stewart and Gray Road, according to Downey Police Department Lt. Kathleen Mendoza.

Rosales, 28, of Downey, died at the scene.

"The suspect was walking on the sidewalk with the victim and two other subjects," Downey police Sgt. Kevin McCaster said at the time. "The victim and one unidentified subject began to argue. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim, killing him."

Said Mendoza: "Detectives quickly identified Ruvalcaba as the suspect. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and an arrest warrant was issued. However, Ruvalcaba fled to an unknown location in Mexico to avoid prosecution."

A tip received in July led investigators to Ruvalcaba's location and his life on the run ended on Aug. 16, when he was arrested in Jalisco with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service and police in Mexico, Mendoza said.

Ruvalcaba was booked on Friday and was being held without bail at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, according to sheriff's inmate records.

Ruvalcaba was due to be arraigned today in Downey.
