Union Square Holds SantaCon

The Bay Area is getting ready for a Santa invasion--not for Christmas, but for SantaCon.

The event kicks off today at noon in San Francisco's Union Square.

It includes a toy drop-off, a pub crawl, and a snowball fight in Duboce park. And the participants are all dressed like St. Nick.

Santa-con started in San Francisco back in 1994. Now more than 300 cities around the world hold similar gatherings, but not everyone is thrilled about the event.

Critics say the events can get rowdy and damage the "real" Santa's image.
