Riding the Movie Star Locomotive

STARRY SIERRA NO. 3: If you appeared in dozens upon dozens of movies and yet very few people knew your name, well. You might find it a bit irksome, right? But we definitely don't think that's the case with the Sierra No. 3, the handsome and historic Gold Country engine that calls Railtown 1897 State Historic Park home. In fact, we're pretty sure that Sierra No. 3 is just happy to haul happy riders, and doesn't give in to too much Tinseltown envy. Wise train.

H'WOOD HISTORY RIDE: Movie buffs and steam enthusiasts and the many, many people who can count themselves as both will be heading to Jamestown this spring and summer for a special ride on the Sierra No. 3. The train'll be heading down the tracks starting on Saturday, April 10; there are six more dates for 2011, and rides will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 24.

TWO QUICK THINGS: The train was built in 1891, so, that's impressive, and certainly camera-worthy. And two: Caboose No. 7 can be seen in "Back to the Future III," so if you're a BTTF-er, you'll want to book a ride. You can find the schedule here; just look for "Sierra No. 3" and you're as gold as Gold Country.
