Undaunted by the raw deal he got from the Academy in 2008, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is scoring yet another film.
Director Anh Hung Tran has tapped Greenwood to write the music for upcoming adaptation of Haruki Murakami bestselling novel, "Norwegian Wood."
The novel tells the story of a man who upon hearing the Beatles song is transported back to the '60s, when his best friend committed suicide, so you can be sure that song will included in the film.
Greenwood's new composition, "Doghouse," which debuted last week a during a performance with the BBC Concert Orchestra, will be the bass for the "Norwegian" score.
“I wrote this piece mostly in hotels and dressing rooms while touring with Radiohead,” Greenwood said on the BBC’s site (now removed, but still available on 24 Bit). “This was more practical than glamorous - lots of time sitting around indoors, lots of instruments about - and aside from picking up a few geographical working titles, I can’t think that it had any effect where, on tour, it was written.”
Greenwood's score for "There Will Be Blood," a brilliant, driving accompaniment to a great film, was derived from "Popcorn Superhet Receiver," a classical composition he had written in 2006. But because it had not been written originally for "Blood," it was ruled ineligible for the Oscars.
