Suspected DUI Driver Strikes Family, Kills Mother in Irvine

One man suspected of DUI was arrested late Wednesday in Irvine after he struck a family of four with his vehicle, killing the mother.

Kamal Attoh, 37, was driving near Turtle Rock Drive and Ridgeline Drive when his vehicle struck the family as they walked near the intersection. Attoh's vehicle went off the roadway as a result.

NBC4 Newschopper Bravo with Gil Leyvas was overhead to catch visuals of the car in the brushes and also one person being pulled from the shrubbery.

A mother, father and two children were hit by the white S.U.V. The mother in the family died, while the father was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he underwent extensive surgery.

The two children, described as teenagers by the Irvine Police Department, were taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover.

Police said that they were called to the scene at approximately 8 p.m. and stated that the Attoh remained at the scene.

As of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Ridgeline Drive was closed in both directions for the investigation.
