Back to School Sleep Schedule: Tips to Make Bedtime a Breeze

If worse comes to worst, just close the door and say goodnight

It's not just toddlers who struggle around bedtime. Older kids can also have trouble getting the sleep they need, especially around back to school season.

Mom blogger Kristen Hewitt shares 6 sleep aids to ensure your child is well-rested and ready to learn!

Wake-Up Clocks
If your kid is grumpy when you draw the curtains and let in the sunshine, there are some alternatives.

The My Tot Clock changes colors to teach little ones when to sleep (blue light) and when it's okay to wake (yellow light).

For older kids, the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock simulates a sunrise and slowly wakes them up.

Essential Oils
Peppermint is a natural substance that will wake the kids up and get them energized for their day.

Young Living's Feather the Owl Diffuser is both an aroma diffuser and sound machine with built-in speaker. You can play some nice, laid back music in the morning while the peppermint works to boost their alertness and get them out of bed.

Sleep Pillow Spray
What's the number one way to wake up happy? Sleep.

Spritz some sleepy spray on your little one's pillow before bed to help lull them to sleep with the calming scents of lavender and witch hazel.

Melatonin
Good Day Chocolates makes a sleep chocolate vitamin for kids. It contains 1mg of pharmaceutical grade melatonin that can work wonders for occasional sleeplessness. It can be habit forming so talk to your pediatrician before use.

Meditation
The number one sleep hack - meditation. Even if your kids say, "I don't wanna meditate," put on a 10 minute meditation and 4 minutes later, they'll be out for the count.

Insight Timer is a great, free app for meditation and sleep. Hewitt recommends the kids meditation course by Andy Hobson, which can be found in the app.

Weighted Pillows and Blankets
Weighted blankets are known to have numerous benefits including reduced anxiety, reduced stress, improved sleep quality, better mood, and best of all it recreates the feeling of a hug.

If worse comes to worst, just close the door and say goodnight.
