Oakland History Museum Cracks Theft Case

A jewelry box that was stolen from the Oakland Museum of California earlier this year has been recovered, according to Oakland officials. A suspect has also been arrested in the case.

There was a $12,000 reward  offered for information leading to the return of the priceless gold rush era box that was stolen in January.

Someone broke in to the museum in the middle of the night and took it from a plexiglass display that had an alarm. The security guard on duty called 911, but the thief got away.

At the time of the heist, Oakland police said they thought the jewelry box theft was connected to the November theft of some gold nuggets.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and museum officials held a news conference at the museum to announce the arrest. Mayor Quan congratulated the police department on a job well done.
