Fantasia Hospitalized for Overdose: Manager

"American Idol"-winner treated for overdose on "aspirin and a sleep aid"

Former “American IdolFantasia Barrino was hospitalized overnight Monday in Charlotte, N.C., for overdosing on “aspirin and a sleep aid,” but the injuries were not life-threatening, her manager told CNN.

Brian Dickens told the network Barrino overdosed the same day she read a court complaint by a woman who has accused the singer of destroying her marriage by having a year-long affair with her husband.

The woman, Paula Cook, also alleges that Barrino and her husband, Antwuan Cook, made a sex tape together.

In a statement Monday, Dickens did not address the sex tape claim but told TMZ he was “certain that [Barrino] is not responsible for the deterioration of the Cook's marriage."

Dickens told CNN Tuesday that Barrino is expected to be released later in the day.

"Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused," he said. "Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention."

Hours later, her father Joseph Barrino, told RadarOnline from his home in Greenboro, North Carolina that the singer was "doing fine."

Since winning the third season of “American Idol,” Barrino has gone on to record albums and star in “The Color Purple” on Broadway. Her latest album, "Back to Me," hits shelves Aug. 24.
