AT&T-T-Mobile Deal Faces Antitrust Scrutiny

AT&Tโ€™s $39 billion bid for T-Mobile would create the countryโ€™s largest wireless provider. But the AT&T- Deutsche Telekom deal is also expected to face a close look from regulators worried about AT&T and Verizon gaining an 80% lock on the wireless market. "It's just nuts," antitrust lawyer and ex-FTC policy director David Balto told Reuters. "When you look at healthy and unhealthy markets, this is at the top of the list of unhealthy markets." Experts say the deal could lead to greater network coverage for customers but more expensive rate plans, if approved.
