Mexican Coke Losing Its Heritage

Mexican Coke soon won’t be as authentically Mexican.

The glass-bottled soft drink, popular for using real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and sold in taquerias from San Diego's Escondido neighborhood to San Francisco’s Mission district, is going to blend in some American flavor.

Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent said the American arm of Coca-Cola will invest $5 billion over the next five years in its Mexican bottling partner, according to the Business Journal.

Mexico is the world’s largest consumer of Coke. There was no word whether Mexican Coke will change its formula.
