Meteorologist to Get Prosthetic Eye After July 4th Fireworks Injury

A Fourth of July fireworks mishap landed a Detroit meteorologist in the hospital where he awaits prosthetic eye surgery for his left eye.

Dave Rexroth, 48, who is WXYZ Channel 7's chief meteorologist in Detroit, was vacationing in Iowa City with his family when a fireworks accident on Friday night caused him to lose vision in his left eye, WXYZ reported.

Rexroth will undergo surgery on Wednesday in Iowa and expects to be fully recovered by September, according to WXYZ.

Officials are not commenting on the details of the injury. The Iowa City Police Department activity log said that emergency officials responded at 10:07 p.m. Friday and found a person suffering burns from fireworks.
