Memorial to Be Held For Former Wrestler Chyna in Rodondo Beach

The wrestler rose to fame in 1997 and has been hailed as "The Ninth Wonder of the World."

A memorial service will take place next week for former "Ninth Wonder of the World" wrestler Chyna, who died in April.

The service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on June 22 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, located at 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd.

Chyna, whose real name was Joan Marie Laurer, rose to fame in 1997 in the World Wrestling Federation. She went on to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship twice and the WWF Women's Championship once. Chyna was the only woman to ever participate in the Royal Rumble and King of Ring events, winning fights against many prominent male wrestlers.

These victories gave her nicknames such as "The First Lady of Sports Entertainment."

Chyna was found dead in her Redondo Beach home April 20 from an apparent accidental drug overdose. She was 46. There has been speculation surrounding the exact cause of her death. Chyna's manager, Anthony Anzaldo, told NBC News the wrestling star "accidentally and unintentionally misused her legally prescribed medication over the course of 2-3 weeks."

Chyna joins a number of professional wrestlers who died relatively young, including Balls Mahoney, The Ultimate Warrior and Andre the Giant.

Family, friends and fans are invited to mourn and honor the wrestler's death at the memorial. There are a number of events planned throughout the service, including video tributes, celebrity speakers and performances by rappers Coolio and Baby Bash, according to the event flier.

Parking and admission is free for the event. Though there is reserved seating, fans have the chance to attend through a registration form found on the former wrestler's website.
