‘Meet the Makers' Art & Wine Walk in Carmel

Add 'em up: 16 artists, and a quintet of wineries, will unite to give participants one splendid Saturday.

PUT AN OCTOBER SATURDAY... right at the top of the heap, the heap that has a sign in front of it that says "ideal day for strolling, art enjoyment, and the quaffing of nice wines." Perhaps such a heap doesn't technically exist in the real world, but lovers of vinos, of paintings, and of seaside hamlets that are highly walkable keep such heaps in their own hearts. And if you adore all of those things, and a perfect October Saturday, too, one that isn't firmly entrenched in either the too-chilly or too-toasty department, best make for one of California's most beautiful villages. That would be, of course, and we hardly need to type it out, though type it out, we shall, for it brings happiness to do so...

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA: And if you're in Carmel on Saturday, Oct. 13, and you are eager to chat up creative people while trying regional libations, plan to "Meet the Makers" from 5 to 8 in the evening. The stroll-here-and-there event will feature 16 different artists, as well offerings from five different wineries. The art end of the event? It's totally free, so get out there and hobnob among some of the people who fashion the works that Carmel is so rightly famous for (from paintings to sculptures and beyond). The wine end of the event? A ten-dollar donation is welcome, if you do want to sample some vinos. The Peter Figge Memorial Scholarship, "a designated fund of the Monterey County Vintners & Growers Foundation)," is the beneficiary.

"FIRST-EVER," OH YEAH: The debut of anything is quite exciting, and this is the "first-ever" Meet the Makers. So get to Carmel, get supporting and adoring the local art, and moon over visiting wineries, too, while you're at it. After all, there are only so many October Saturdays in a year, and there's only one Carmel-by-the-Sea on the planet.
