Long Beach Police Clerk Accused of Recording Men in Bathroom

A Long Beach police clerk and typist was arrested on suspicion of secretly photographing and videotaping other men in a restroom at work, Long Beach police said Thursday.

Sergio Nieto, 28, of Downey, has been suspended from his job.

According to police, another employee saw suspicious activity in a second-floor men's restroom on June 29 at the Public Safety Building, 400 W. Broadway. That employee told his supervisor, and an internal investigation began.

Detectives discovered that a civilian police employee had been photographing and videotaping other employees in the same restroom, police said. Nieto was arrested and booked on suspicion of recording other men without their knowledge by the Signal Hill police to avoid any conflict with his job at the LBPD, according to he department.

Nieto is jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail and is tentatively set to appear in court July 25 in Long Beach.
