Lin-Manuel Miranda Dares Fans to Sing β€˜Hamilton' and Raise Money for Immigrants

The "Hamilton" creator and star launched the #Ham4All challenge in honor of Immigrant Heritage Month

"Hamilton" star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is challenging fans to raise money for immigrant support organizations in what could be the next viral internet sensation.

In honor of Immigrant Heritage Month, the #Ham4All challenge dares participants to sing their favorite song from the hit Broadway musical, post it on social media, and donate to the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition while challenging friends to do the same.

The coalition, named after "Yorktown" lyrics from Miranda's musical, includes 12 nonprofits that support immigrants and refugees in the U.S. through legal support and advocacy.

A $10 donation enters fans in a raffle for two VIP tickets to the opening night of "Hamilton" in Los Angeles, plus airfare and hotel, with more entries and prizes for higher donations.

Celebrity participants to date include Shonda Rhimes, Gina Rodriguez, Ben Stiller and Steph and Ayesha Curry.

"With each one, I keep getting overwhelmed," Miranda said during an appearance on the "Today" show.

Following the viral (and medical) success of the Ice Bucket Challenge three years ago, Miranda's challenge connects the immigrant story at the heart of his musical to some of the ways it's been used in recent political activism against President Donald Trump's travel ban.

To further promote the coalition, Miranda on Tuesday released a music video he produced for the "Hamilton Mixtape" song of the same name. The gritty, film-like visual for "Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)" depicts many immigrants and refugees and highlights their social and economic contributions to America.

The song is performed by rappers K'naan, Residente, Riz MC and Snow Tha Product, who are Somali-Canadian, Puerto Rican, British-Pakistani and Mexican-American, respectively. The video also includes a cameo during the credits from "Hamilton" actor Daveed Diggs.
