Leap Day Babies Born at SD Hospitals

Baby girl born is the first Leap Day

San Diego welcomed a few Leap Day babies at hospitals throughout the county on Wednesday.

Morgan Murphy was born to parents Jennifer and William at 1:56 a.m. on Feb. 29 at the Kaiser Permanente in Grantville. Jennifer wasn’t expecting Morgan for another three weeks, but she ended up delivering early.

"I really thought I had another three weeks to prepare for this," Jennifer told NBCSanDiego.

Morgan is San Diego's first Leap Day baby of the decade.

"It really didn't cross my mind at the time, but it's really neat," Jennifer said. "It's exciting."

Kaiser Hospital has delivered eight babies as of the early afternoon, Nicoletti said.

Another couple, Rafael and Diana Romero Lainez, told NBC San Diego that they welcomed their baby girl this morning around 8:30 a.m.  at Mary Birch Hospital.

Those born this Leap Day technically won’t turn 1 year old until Feb. 29, 2016.
