Johnny Depp Plays Surprise Concert in Texas

The "Rum Diary" star took to the stage at the Austin Film Festival.

Two things you already knew about Johnny Depp: he's talented, and he will surprise you.

And he proved both things once again while promoting his new film "The Rum Diary" at the Austin Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Following a screening of the film, Depp hit the stage at the Continental Club (which reports claim was packed to triple capacity) alongside ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Depp's former bandmate (in the band P) Bill Carter.

The trio rocked out with a 90-minute jam session.

Depp and Carter's band (which also included Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes) played their first ever live show at the Austin Music Awards in 1993.

"The Rum Diary," based on the Hunter S. Thompson book, opens everywhere this Friday.
