Jailer Fired for Facebook Friend Request to Inmate

With friends like these... . Two jail deputies sent Facebook friend requests to a female inmate, costing both of them their jobs. One reinforced the request with an ill-advised text message to the prisoner.

Georgia's Oconee County Jail Deputy Dewayne Powers was fired and Deputy Andrea Rogers resigned when it was determined that reaching out to the 23-year-old was "inappropriate communication," according to NBC News.

An investigation also showed that both deputies engaged in face-to-face conversations of a sexual nature with the inmate, according to the county sheriff.

Powers also sent a text message to the prisoner. What was exactly said between the parties is unclear, but the inmate indicated they were "conversations of a sexual nature."

There is no evidence of actual physical contact between anyone involved.
