Hit Man Who Killed Rabbi's Wife Set Free

The self-admitted hit man who said he was hired to kill the wife of a prominent South Jersey rabbi two decades ago is a free man.

Former Collingswood, N.J. resident Len Jenoff walked out of prison Friday morning after spending about 14 years in custody.

Jenoff's son picked him up around 8 a.m. from Mid-State Correctional Facility in Fort Dix, N.J., according to the State Department of Corrections.

Jenoff initially was due to be freed on Feb. 14. While no specific reason was given for the earlier release, the corrections officials noted that release dates can fluctuate near the end of a prisoner's term as calculations are made based on good behavior credits, security concerns and other factors.

The 68-year-old convict has been serving a 23-year sentence for his part in the murder-for-hire death of Carol Neulander, the wife of Cherry Hill Rabbi Fred Neulander. She was found beaten to death in their home in 1994.

Jenoff broke the case open in 2000 when he confessed his role and implicated Neulander in his wife's death. Jenoff twice testified the rabbi hired him to kill his wife so he could carry on an affair, and Neulander eventually was convicted of murder in 2002.

Neulander is now serving a life sentence.

Jenoff changed his story several years after the trial, but then changed it back and said he had been truthful during Neulander's two murder trials. He claimed he had lied because he was depressed about his time behind bars.
