Have a Peak Experience at the Mammoth Wine Weekend

Several events, including The Village Wine Walk, fill the sippable Sierra-fun weekend.

PICTURE THE MINARETS, as seen from the summit of Mammoth Mountain, and now picture the sun just behind the not-so-distant peaks. What's the color of the sky above and around those famous mountains? Is it a bit peachy, a bit pink, and maybe even the color of flower? It can be a most bewitching sight, to be standing at over 11,000 feet while watching the sun go down behind a set of gloriously jagged rocks to the west. But you can maybe find a similar color, and a similar sense of having fun in the Sierra, should you participate in the Mammoth Wine Weekend, which will return to The Village and other locations from Aug. 16 through 19, 2018.

THE COLOR YOU MAY FIND, the one that's similar to a mountain sunset, might appear in a glass of rosé, should you hold it up to the sunshine at just the right moment. But there will be many right moments during the four-day festival, and several experiences to choose from. A Cork Pop Dinner opens the festivity on Aug. 16 at Campo Mammoth, while Friday evening is all about a special wine dinner up, up, up at Parallax Restaurant (yep, the "up, up, up" part means you'll be journey by gondola). There's also a Wine Dinner at the Lakefront, featuring Opus One Winery,  that same night, so choices, choices (and, yes, a third choice: a Wine Dinner at Whitebark featuring Silver Oak Winery).

THE VILLAGE WINE WALK... strolls on Saturday — look for over 30 wineries to be there, pouring and chatting — and a Poolside Brunch at The Westin is the Sunday must-do. Does some Sierra time, some sipping time, a trip up Mammoth Mountain, and a little higher-elevation air sound just right for August? If you're daydreams are as rosy as a Minarets sunset or a glass of nicely dry rosé, start here, and find what you need to know about this well-loved summer soirée.
