About half of American households can "barely" save more than five percent of their income, and one in five said they are unable to save a penny, according to the results of a new survey by Bankrate.com, CNBC reported. The highest savings rate was found for those making between $50,000 and $75,000, a third of whom said they saved more than 10 percent of their income. Findings in the survey, conducted by Princeton Data Source this month, echoed those of other recent studies that showed Americans struggle to set aside enough money for emergencies and retirement.
