Google Unveils New, Cheaper Chromebook

Google has released a new Chromebook to actually compete with netbooks in price and not just size.

The small lightweight Acer AC700 Chromebook falls in line with Google's other mini laptops: It has nothing but apps and the web.

The latest edition to the Chromebook family sells for $349 and comes with Wi-Fi only. Like other Chromebooks, the computer is an app drive machine that pulls all its programs and data from the web.

Apps can be downloaded via the Chrome Web Store. The computer is built on speed -- it turns on in only eight seconds -- and Google claims it actually gets faster over time, like a fine wine, minus the whole ageing thing.

The new Chromebook is available from Amazon.com for $349.
