Google Doodle Contest Voting Begins

The 114,000 entries the Doodle 4 Google contest received has been whittled to 50 state winners, according to their blog. No small feat, indeed.

And now Google's looking for some help picking the ultimate, standalone, "holy cow I won" winner, through public voting. Student artists "doodled their way from the prehistoric to the futuristic to everywhere in between" while sticking to this year's theme: "If I Could Travel in Time, I'd Visit..."

Voting goes through May 10. The 50 winners will all be displayed at the New York Public Library on May 17. The winner will be displayed on on May 18.

The national winner also receives a $30,000 scholarship for use at any school, a trip to the New York event, a Google Chromebook computer, a Wacom digital design tablet and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it. The winner's school also receives $50,000 technology grant toward a computer lab or tech program.

The four national finalists win a $5,000 scholarship, as well as the trip, tablet and t-shirt.
