Firefighters showed one man that a simple act of kindness goes a long way after they stopped to give him a pair of shoes as he was walking barefoot near the freeway earlier this week.
According to a Facebook post by the Riverside Fire Department, Engine 6-C was returning from training Monday and "noticed a local homeless man walking slowly on the side of the freeway overpass on Columbia Avenue."
The fire engine stopped and firefighter David Gilstrap offered the man a pair of tennis shoes he had with him.
