The horses ran their last race at Inglewood’s historic Hollywood Park on Sunday.
A new housing and retail complex is scheduled to be built in the space where the 75-year-old park currently stands.
The track, once a fixture for famous movie stars and prize horses, has limped along as the times have changed.

Marti Shoemaker, a longtime employee at the track, said factors such as satellite broadcasting, casinos and the rise of internet gambling helped seal the fate of the race track.
“People want to move at a faster pace now,” Shoemaker said.

Highlighting closing day was the King Glorious Stakes, which is the program’s most lucrative at $200,000.
The 238-acre site taking the park's place will include a 16-screen movie theater, sidewalk cafes and fine dining restaurants, according to the Hollywood Park Tomorrow website. The space will also be home to four parks and a collection of townhomes, condos and senior houosing.
