Ex-Husband Sought in Indiana Strip Mall Slaying Found Dead

The man believed to have shot and killed his ex-wife at a strip mall in northwest Indiana was found dead Sunday afternoon.

Richard Kalecki, 49, was found at a Calumet City, Illinois, cemetery, according to Schererville Police Chief David Dowling.

Kalecki was identified by investigators as the person responsible for slaying his ex-wife, 37-year-old Alessandra de Moraes Emiliano. The shooting took place Saturday at approximately 12:20 p.m. inside an Edible Arrangements store where she worked, according to police.

Investigators did not release the exact cause of Kalecki’s death, but said he took his own life, according to Schererville police.

Chief Dowling wrote in a statement “Kalecki’s death brings an end to the tragic domestic violence homicide investigation of Ms. De Moraes Emiliano. We have worked very closely with her entire family and they have our deepest sympathies.”

Edible Arrangements has not yet commented on the incident.
