Disney World to Unveil Hundreds of Plant Based Food Options Starting Next Week

What to Know

  • The plant based options will expand to Disney’s theme parks in California starting in the spring of 2020.

The "happiest place on Earth" is about to become even happier for people on plant-based diets as Disney World will debut hundreds of new meatless menu options next week.

The Orlando-area theme park announced Tuesday that more than 400 new meat-free, egg-free, honey-free and dairy-free items – including everything from plant-based dumplings to cashew cheesecake β€“ will be available starting Oct. 1 at quick service locations and Oct. 3 at table service locations.

"We're always looking for ways to bring more flavor, innovation, and creativity to the Disney dining experience and guest feedback is first on the menu when we evolve our menus and develop new dishes," Disney said in a statement. "Our guests have embraced our plant-based offerings at our parks around the globe, inspiring us to expand our menu."

Disney officials say guests have embraced vegan offerings on its menus around the globe, inspiring the company to offer more options.

The vegan meals won't have animal meat, dairy, eggs or honey. They will be made from vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains and legumes.

A growing number of consumers identify as flexitarians – people who are trying to reduce meat intake for health or environmental reasons – and the market for plant-based foods is expected to keep growing, CNBC reported.
