Dallas Man Accused of Stealing Ambulance, Posing as Doctor

A 23-year-old Dallas man was arrested Tuesday after police say he posed as a physician at Children's Medical Center Dallas and later stole an American Medical Response ambulance.

Officials at Children's Medical Center Dallas said Terrance King obtained a temporary badge at the registration desk, and dressed in a lab coat, attempted to pose as a physician.

According to hospital officials, he entered a patient's room while a family and a nurse were inside.

Hospital officials said King was never unsupervised during the short time he posed as a physician. A statement from the hospital said he was escorted from the building after being questioned by staff.

The hospital provided NBC 5 with the following statement:

"A person posing as a physician did enter the Children's Medical Center Dallas facility. Our staff, following existing security procedures, questioned the person who then left the building. Our entire staff has been notified, and we have also notified DFW-area hospitals. We are working closely with the Dallas Police Department. Additional security personnel are currently on the premises and we are continuing to aggressively investigate and monitor the situation."

Tuesday evening, police arrested King after he allegedly stole an ambulance. He was taken into custody near the intersection of Routh Street and Hood Street in Dallas' Oak Lawn neighborhood before 10 p.m.

In a statement to NBC 5 News, Medical City Dallas Hospital said:

"[Tuesday], we, along with all hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth, received a security alert from Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council on behalf of Children's Health System. As soon as we were alerted, we shared the information with our staff immediately. We are committed to proving a safe, secure environment for all of our visitors and staff."

King's criminal history includes theft, burglary, driving without a license and credit card abuse.

He's also been arrested for impersonating a firefighter in 2013.
