Man Stuck in Cement Mixer in Union City Rescued

A man was stuck inside a cement mixer for over two hours late Thursday before being extricated by Alameda County Fire Department crews.

Firefighters at around 4:30 p.m. responded to a man stuck in a large hopper full of dry cement at U.S. Pipe and Foundry, 1295 Whipple Road.

Officials said during the rescue operation the man was secured with a harness to prevent him from sinking deeper. Crews also drained product from the bottom of the hopper to prevent more dry cement from building around the man.

Officials said cement was up to the man's chest and rescuers gave him oxygen before pulling him out at around 6:30 p.m.

A worker on scene told NBC Bay Area the man who was stuck in the cement mixer is a manager at the facility.
