The coyote that bit a 6-year-old boy in Irvine has been trapped and euthanized, authorities said Thursday.
The child was bitten on Oct. 9 in Springbrook Park, according to the Irvine Police Department.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel identified the animal using "scientific evidence," police said.
A dozen coyotes have been trapped since the boy was bitten.
"Trapping efforts have ceased, however the Irvine Police Department Animal Services Division will continue to patrol the area," according to a police statement.
The 6-year-old and his father were walking through Springbrook Park about 6:30 p.m. when the coyote sprung out from behind a play house in a sand box of the park and bit the boy on the left arm, according to Andrew Hughan of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
"The coyote dragged the boy three or four feet, but fortunately the father was able to scare the coyote away," Hughan said.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was given rabies shots as a precaution, Hughan said.
It's unclear what scientific evidence was used to identify the coyote.
Hughan had said following the attack that officials were not able to obtain enough DNA to determine which animal bit the boy.
