Bizarre Chase Lands Range Rover in Water at Berkeley Aquatic Park

Crews pulled a Range Rover out of Berkeley's Aquatic Park on Wednesday, following a bizarre overnight chase with the California Highway Patrol.

A  dispatcher told NBC Bay Area that a low-speed pursuit of the SUV began on the Bay Bridge about 10:30 p.m. night. Officers followed the SUV - for reasons still unclear - through Berkeley on eastbound Interstate Highway 80  until the male driver exited on Shellmound Street in Emeryville and drove the SUV into the area of Berkeley Aquatic Park.

The dispatcher said the then drove his SUV into the water and got out and began swimming around.  Eventually, he came to shore and was arrested at 11:30 p.m.

What he was arrested for has not been made public.
