Beyonce and Others Invited to Join Film Academy

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the names of those invited to join its ranks this year, including Bradley Cooper, Russell Brand, Beyonce Knowles, Jessie Eisenberg and Mila Kunis. These actors were among a total of 178 film-industry workers invited to the near-6,000 member Academy, reported The Associated Press.

The Academy, in what they are calling an "unprecedented gesture," also invited documentarian Tim Hetherington into the Academy, though posthumously. Hetherington was killed earlier this year when reporting on the turmoil in Libya. His film Restrepo was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year.

Connecticut senator and one-time presidential-bid contender Christopher Dodd was on the list as well, under the "at large" category, according to The Academy's website.
