Brother Arrested in Birthday Death of Woman Found With Trauma to Head: NYPD

A woman found dead with trauma to the head on her birthday in the Bronx was killed by her own brother, police say, and it was her mother who discovered her.

The woman, identified as 30-year-old Erica Wilson, was found unconscious and unresponsive just after 7 p.m. Thursday inside an apartment on Brook Avenue in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, the NYPD said.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said it was Wilson's mother who found her. A neighbor who didn't want to be identified said she heard "screams in the hallway."

"I came out, her sister, her mother, stepdad and other sisters screaming that she was dead," said the neighbor and friend, who had plans to celebrate Wilson's birthday on Friday.

Police announced Friday they've arrested Wilson's brother, Jeremy Wilson, on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

A motive was unclear. Sources said the two had been fighting because she wanted him to move out of her apartment.

It wasn't immediately known if Wilson had retained an attorney. He didn't respond to reporters as he was led by police from the police station in the Bronx after his arrest Friday.

Erica Wilson's friend said, "She was funny, always bubbly, happy, never seen her sad at all. Her life was cut too short."
