White Trooper Sues State Police for ‘Reverse Discrimination'

A state trooper is suing the New Jersey State Police, claiming he has been passed over for promotions because he is a white man.

The Courier News reports that 33-year-old Robert Schaffter of Monroe filed suit Oct. 28 in Superior Court in New Brunswick.

Schaffter, a trooper since 2004, claims he's been passed over for several transfers and promotions that went to equally or lesser qualified minority officers.

A spokesman for the Attorney General's Office told The Courier News on Friday that the office does not comment on pending litigation.

The reverse-discrimination suit comes as the State Police has emerged from a 10 year court-ordered federal monitoring after settling a 2000 discrimination lawsuit over racial profiling.

The agency has touted its most recent graduating class as its most diverse.
