Toddler Dies in Hot Car as Mom Teaches School: Police

An 18-month-old girl has died after her mother inadvertently left her in the back seat of the car while she went inside to teach at a Panama City elementary school.

Authorities say Jamie Buckley didn't discover her daughter, Reagan, until the end of the school day Tuesday. When Bay County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the school they found Reagan unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bay County Sheriff's spokeswoman Ruth Corley said Wednesday that no charges have been filed but the investigation is continuing.

Deputies say the child had been inside the car, which was parked outside Cedar Grove Elementary School since before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Reagan's death is at least the third child death from being left in a hot car so far this year.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist Buckley and her family with expenses related to the loss of their child.
