Toddler Dies After Being Left in Hot Car in Pecos

Police say a West Texas toddler has died after accidentally being left in a hot car during triple-digit temperatures.

Pecos police on Wednesday identified the victim as 17-month-old Avrian Villalobos.

Police Chief Clay McKinney said the mother had the toddler and two older children with her Tuesday when she dropped her husband off at work, then drove home. She and her two other children went into the residence.

The mother later realized she left her toddler in the car, found him and tried to resuscitate him. She drove the boy to a hospital, where he was declared dead. An autopsy was ordered.

Child Protective Services has taken custody of her other two children.

The National Weather Service said the temperature hit 101 degrees Tuesday afternoon in Pecos.
