Three Americans Reportedly Kidnapped in Baghdad

The U.S. State Department was working Sunday to locate three Americans in Iraq after they were reportedly kidnapped in Baghdad, NBC News reported.

Dubai-based news service Al Arabiya cited their own sources, reporting they had been kidnapped by “militias” in the Iraqi capital.

"We are working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals. The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority," said State Department spokesman John Kirby.

Iraqi officials in Baghdad couldn’t offer details, but said they were working with the U.S. Embassy to get more information.

The news comes after at least 18 people were killed and 40 others injured when insurgents attacked a Baghdad shopping mall last Monday.
