Florida City Store Clerks Fight Back Against Armed Robbers

Two employees at a gas station in Florida City fought back against a pair of robbers, one armed with a baseball bat and the other wielding a knife, who entered their store Saturday.

Surveillance video released Wednesday shows the attempted armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station located at 10 Southeast 1st Avenue.

The video shows two men storm into the store and approach the clerk's counter. One suspect began slamming the bat against the register then went behind the counter and began swinging the bat at the two clerks.

One of the employees was able to get a hold of the bat, turning it against the suspect, and started hitting him as his co-worker held him down.

Meanwhile, the second robber climbed on the counter and grabbed money out of the register before the co-worker lifted the his feet off the counter, tossing him back. The suspect then runs out of the store with the stolen cash. The first suspect managed to break loose and bolt from the store. Police say he fled in a gold colored SUV.

One of the employees suffered a hand injury.
