“Armed Suspect” With Hostages Taken into Custody:Police

Hostages held in a Southern California apartment were saved by a SWAT team that streamed in to take a man, who was believed to be armed with a gun, into custody Sunday evening.

A hostage situation was reported just after 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Carondelet Street in the West Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, officials from the LAPD said.

Up to three people were held against their will for several tense hours by an alleged armed man as a standoff began between the suspect and authorities.

When officials received reports that the suspect was possibly beating one of the hostages inside the apartment they stormed in.

It was unclear if the suspect and the hostages knew each other.

The hostages were in OK condition, officials said.

Initially, authorities said a female was being held hostage. They later said there were multiple hostages.

No further details were available.
