Man Surrenders After Barricading Himself Inside Houston Area Hospital

A man believed to be the father of a patient surrendered without incident Saturday night after barricading himself inside a hospital room with a patient, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement surrounded the hospital near Houston late Saturday evening.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Saturday night it believed the man was a distraught parent of a patient at the Tomball Regional Medical Center. A supervisor at the county's emergency dispatch center said the situation was in the critical care unit and began around 7 p.m.

The hospital is on a 150-acre campus about 30 miles northwest of Houston.

The Tomball police department said there were no injuries and no shots fired.

Officers believe the man was armed but cannot confirm the type of weapon.

The hospital has not been evacuated. However, police advised patients seeking care to go to other facilities if possible.
