Police have arrested the man they say shot a police officer in the face in Aberdeen, Maryland.
The shooting happened on the 500 block of Ohio Court just before 2:30 a.m. Friday. The officer was responding to a call for suspicious activity when the suspect appeared at the tree line and fired. Police say six to eight projectiles struck the officer in the face.
Police identified 21-year-old Tyler Testerman as the gunman, and began an intense search for him.
At 10:25 a.m., authorities surrounded a home in Edgewood, Maryland, and Testerman surrendered. Police believe the home belongs to his girlfriend.
Testerman will be charged with attempted murder and other charges. It wasn't immediately clear if he has hired an attorney.
The officer, a 10-year veteran of the department, was flown to Shock Trauma and is in stable condition. Aberdeen police Sgt. C. William Reiber said the officer suffered an injury to his eye that will require surgery.
Several schools in the Aberdeen area were initially on a two-hour delay, but they have since closed for the day. Those schools include:

- Aberdeen Middle School
- The Alternative Education at the Center for Educational Opportunity
- Bakerfield Elementary School
- George Lisby at Hillsdale Elementary School
- Hall's Cross Roads Elementary School
