The 2018 Perseid Meteor Shower Is Coming This Weekend

This year's Perseid's could be particularly dazzling, experts say

The 2018 Perseid meteor shower, considered the best meteor shower of the year according to NASA, will light up the night sky this weekend, NBC News MACH reported.

Sunday night will be the peak night for shooting stars, which will continue to fall into the early hours Monday. Experts say this year’s Perseids could be especially dazzling because the crescent moon will have set and there will be no moonlight to wash out the fainter meteors.

The first shooting stars will appear about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and will come with increasing frequency as the night progresses, one expert said.

"The shower is the second strongest of the year, rich in fireballs, and only the December Geminids are better (but night is much colder and not so comfortable to observe)," Bill Cooke, a meteor expert at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, told NBC News MACH in an email.
