9-Year-Old Dies After Being Sat On as Punishment

Florida investigators say a 9-year-old girl is dead after a 325 pound woman sat on her as punishment. Veronica Green Posey is charged with homicide in the death of her 9-year-old cousin, Dericka Lindsay. Escambia County Sheriff's deputies say Posey sat on Lindsay as a punishment for "being out of control". Investigators say Lindsay told both Posey and her parents she couldn't breathe as she was being sat on, but Posey didn't budge for another two minutes. When she got up, the girl wasn't breathing. Lindsay's parents are charged with neglect in the case. (Published Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017)

Authorities say a 325-pound woman has been charged with killing a 9-year-old girl by sitting on the child as punishment.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that 64-year-old Veronica Green Posey was arrested Saturday and charged with homicide and cruelty toward a child.

Paramedics and deputies responded to the family's Pensacola home following a 911 call. Posey told deputies she was sitting on Dericka Lindsay because the girl was out of control. During the punishment, Dericka told Posey and two other adult relatives that she couldn't breathe. When Posey got up, Dericka wasn't breathing.

The two other adults face neglect charges.
